How far are we from hunger

The 2020 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World estimates that nearly 690 million people suffered from hunger in 2019, an increase of 10 million compared to 2018 and nearly 60 million compared to five years ago. High cost and low economic affordability mean that billions of people are unable to access healthy and nutritious food. Asia has the highest number of hungry people, but Africa has the fastest growing number of hungry people.

It is predicted in the report that, globally, from 2019 to the end of 2020, the COVID-19 epidemic may increase the number of long-term hungry people by more than 130 million.

02. Hunger has never been far away

To this day, there are still 250 million people in Africa facing food shortages, but the 'hungry continent' is not limited to Africa. In Asia, where we are located, the number of people suffering from food shortages has reached 381 million!

Hunger is not far away from us, perhaps it is just a global locust plague, or perhaps it is just the loss of food in important food producing countries.

Hunger is not far away from us. Most of our parents have personally experienced the suffering of hunger. Even if we cannot empathize with the hunger that occurs in distant Africa, saving food is still one of the traditional virtues of our Chinese nation, which is not unfamiliar.

03. 130 million tons of grain shortage

According to the China Rural Development Report 2020, it is predicted that by the end of the 14th Five Year Plan period (around 2025), China will experience a food shortage of about 130 million tons, including a grain shortage of 25 million tons.

  04. Eliminate 'waste on the tip of the tongue'

In 2020, the COVID-19, locust plague and natural disasters will be fierce, making the global food security and shortage more serious, and "saving" is imperative.

The waste of favors and extravagance is a major source of food waste. Not being able to finish eating symbolizes abundance, a CD symbolizes poor hospitality, and eating the last bite of food is considered impolite. These folk customs still have a profound impact today.

05. Clean Your Plate Campaign, Start from Me

The key to rejecting waste is to establish a culture. Resist outdated customs, advocate low-carbon environmental protection, start from myself, order in moderation, and refuse waste.

Clean Your Plate Campaign develops the habit of cherishing food, practicing strict economy and opposing waste in life, rather than just an action.

We can achieve:

In the restaurant, order on demand and pack the rest;

In the cafeteria, serve meals as needed and add more after finishing;

At home, cook on demand and eliminate waste.

  06. Proud of the "CD"

  There is a habit called "CD". We should consciously maintain a good atmosphere of frugal dining, actively stop the behavior of wasting food, and strive to turn our actions into a habit, making our good habits a way of life. Through the transmission and dissemination of habits, we can inspire more people around us to say "no" to waste.

  Advocate rational consumption, order meals reasonably and consume moderately according to actual needs during family and outdoor gatherings, avoid waste, eat as much as you want, add more if not enough, refuse "leftover banquets", and take pride in "CDs".
